Where Do I Recycle?

Where do I recycle at ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ?

ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ has single-stream recycling, with some exceptions. Throughout campus, you'll find bins for waste/trash and bins marked recycling.

ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Recycling Dos:

Here's what you can put in the recycling bin:

  • Clean glass
  • Clean plastic (hard plastic only – bottles, etc.)
  • Clean paper (any sort—newspaper, white paper, colored paper)
  • Clean aluminum (cans, etc.)
  • Clean cardboard

ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Recycling Don'ts:

Things you shouldn't put in a recycling bin at ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ:

  • Styrofoam
  • Soiled/dirty paper or cardboard
  • Food
  • Plastic bags (However, if you bundle them, you can recycle them at Central Market.)

ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Special Recycling:

At ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ there is special recycling for the following items:

  • CFL light bulbs
  • Small electronics
  • Ink cartridges
  • Batteries

The receptacle for these special items is in the lobby of Mabee Library.

Is there composting at ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ?

Professor David Pryor started the ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Compost Initiative in 2017. Since his retirement in 2018, students of ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Sustain have collaborated with ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ faculty, the Headwaters Sanctuary, and local businesses to get building materials for twelve compost bins. Currently, the bins are composting organic materials from the Headwaters and Main Campus’s on-campus dining halls. For ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ students, this initiative provides a wonderful opportunity for community service hours and for you to get to know your fellow Cardinals, all while helping to make ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ a zero-waste university.
